This blog is brought to you by the same dude who runs Downright Puerility, a blog reserved for vanity, thoughtless reblogging, and hipster dance music. He would like to extend a welcome to a different kind of blog which might at first seem more mature, but is actually filled with the same sort of childishness which inspired the other blog’s name. He knows a few of you don’t care for his words, so he’ll end every post with the tl;dr (too long; didn’t read) summary where you might save yourself a lot of time.
*Try as I might, I cannot finish this post. I’ll work on it as I go along in my ~journey~.
So I’ve had a few people ask me just where I’m going in a few days, so I thought I’d write this blog post and point them to it whenever there’s a question. It will also help me keep track of all the places I want to visit, so I’ll be editing this post as I discover more about the cities/countries I travel. I’ll also update the locations posted here with whichever relevant blog posts I write, so consider this your one-stop-shop for creeping on my trip. If you even care, that is.
First, Chicago… Or really just O’Hare International. It might seem silly to list a layover as a destination, but if you’ve got four hours to spend in an airport, why not make it enjoyable?! Seriously though, if anyone’s full of awesome advice on how to navigate this airport and find good food, send me a message.
From Chicago I fly with my (best) friend Jenna to the land of her people… Finland, where her aunt will pick us up from Vantaa and take us to her home just outside of Helsinki to recover from the inevitable jet lag and perhaps lightly traipse around the city. The next day we’re off to the aunt’s lakehouse, an hour north of Helsinki, where we’ll all get drunk in the sauna and jump into the freezing lake. Architects are obsessed with this aspect of Finnish culture and cite it as an example of thermal delight, where humans seek to test the extremes of their sixth sense. I’m excited. From the lakehouse we’ll likely head straight for Pori, where Jenna will attend a Nora Jones concert and I’ll find something to do. When we get back to Helsinki the following Monday, I’m pretty much on my own until I return to city for Flow Festival on August 10th (where I’ll see Lykke Li, Miike Snow, and possibly St. Vincent and Bjork for the second time!) After flow ends on the 12th, I’ll spend a few days more in Helsinki before heading to my friends in NYC. Some of the places in the city I want to hit up:
Now back to the period of time between visiting Pori and attending Flow Festival…. While I don’t know what exactly I want to do; I know where I want to go. I’ll list the cities and the respective locales according to when I think I’ll visit them.
